Who are you to shine?

Facing fear, to reveal your true power

What is your deepest fear? Is it that you won’t measure up to the expectations put on you by others? Perhaps it’s that you won’t achieve all you think you need or want?

What if I asked you to look past all of that, to look even deeper within yourself? What would your deepest fear be then? You may be surprised to find that the answer is the same for you as it is for me, as it is for so many of us.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”

These are the words of spiritual activist Marianne Williamson. Embracing the light within you, feeling its power and being unafraid is a challenge we all face. So how can we rise to it and shine?

Begin the healing process

Often our fears stem from past experiences, stresses or traumas in which our insecurities are rooted. In a world where there is little time to stop, process our emotions and heal, we internalise these negative experiences. At every new challenge we face, they once more come to the fore, as we chastise, criticise and question ourselves and our abilities.

Letting go of internalised negativity, allows you to face your fears head-on. Giving yourself permission to do this is the first step and is often easier said than done when you’re juggling life at work and at home. That’s where Ecstatic Awakening DanceTM can help.

Journey through dance

Ecstatic Awakening DanceTM uses freeform dance to music that resonates with your body to take you on a journey. This journey is yours and yours alone, a personal transformation that Ecstatic Awakening DanceTM facilitates by creating a safe, sacred space from which you can embark on the road to release, release of tension, release of pent-up emotions and even the release of past traumas.

As your body finds its natural rhythm, the physicality of it all brings about an emotional awakening. And so, the process of learning to love yourself begins. From a place of self-love, the question “who are you to shine?” becomes almost irrelevant, for there is no question to it. You can shine, so you will.

Spread the light

The journey towards realising the power within you is transformative, not only for yourself but for those around you. As Marianne says:

“As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

By facing your own fears, making mistakes and learning to shine, you may just find others drawn to that light and inspired to face their fears too.
