Within this field she ran many different groups Dance & Movement, Mindfulness, Relaxation, relapse prevention and Health & Well-being to name a few. She also worked with thousands of people 1:1 as a substance abuse counsellor. This work with the human condition continues to inspire her, everyone has their own personal history full of different traumas, sadness, loss and despair and yet despite these stories we survive and can thrive given enough support, love and gentle encouragement. She continues to work within this field but in a different capacity as an event’s organiser at Chandos House Residential Drug Treatment Charity in Bristol. Rebecca is really interested in the convergence where science meets spirituality and has studied and taught many forms: Mindfulness, Ear Acupuncture, Medical Qi Gong, Ecstatic Awakening Dance, Yoga, Shamanic Practice, Womb Wisdom, and Meditation which have led her to develop & embody a powerful series of transformational workshops, events and trainings that she facilitates throughout the UK and Europe ‘allowing sacred space’ in a way that is down to earth welcoming and safe. She is also the mother of a radiant and energetic 11 year old!
“I believe that Ecstatic Awakening Dance™ is the fastest, safest most fun way to get out of the thinking of the head and into the feeling of the body. When I dance I create a space for miracles to happen, the rhythm of the music, my heart and the universe becoming one. Stripped of my dualistic ego I become naked and innocent like a child, open to the love and joy that resides at my core”.

As the years have gone by, I have become more interested in the body/spirit/mind connection and alternative health. I have a Master’s degree in psychodynamic studies and also trained in Reiki to teacher/Masters level. Having been so very cerebral – I felt that I needed something more grounded in the body. Being from a musical background, and having danced for most of my twenties and thirties, I felt that I needed this in my life – and the best way to make it happen was to do the teacher training to make myself commit!!
My vision was Big Beats Dance – for other big people like myself. I wanted to create a safe body-positive space for people with low self- esteem, or who experienced shame about their body shape or size – but I soon realised that I was being exclusive. I’m on a journey with this – and sharing it with anyone who dares to try and be gentle and kind to themselves, and unlock total freedom to move, eyes-closed to music that provokes connection and movement of all kind. My body has held a lot for me over the years, so it’s about time I got ‘out of my head’ and into my body. It’s not been easy for me having been obese since childhood – but that’s the point. That’s why I’m sharing it with Y’all!! If I can do it – you can – bring it on!
I have learned this through EAD…
I cannot force ‘it’. Cut ‘it’ off or out of me. Make things happen before they are ready to be released. I cannot be harsh or cruel, or tough or strict. I cannot shame or scold myself into action. I probably won’t even change too much…It begins with a gentle conversation…’Hello body…thank you…how are you doing?’ then being kind and gentle with all of the answers, and all the stories whilst I reconnect, release, unwind, grieve, celebrate, stomp and transform…

She creates unique beautiful clothing for woman that crosses the boundary between fashion and art, that is not only sustainable but has a message that we should all’…. dress like nobody’s judging’ no matter what we have been taught, no matter what our body shape is, or age and what we might think of it.
She loves expressing and releasing through dance and movement. She is very grounding yet quite playful and holds a good sacred space with the ability to crack open amour with light bearing energy. She has held many EAD classes and has also combining them with a sweat-lodge.
"This training is one of the most amazing training I have ever done. If you want to improve your skills as a public speaker, this is the best training. I have felt more confident and more grounded after these 10 days. Very powerful. Thank you Rebecca!"

"The course is dynamic and packed full of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises. It teaches you how to create a safe and encouraging space for others to take a journey of self-exploration and self-expression through the power of movement, breath and meditation… Rebecca is a brilliant teacher. She is honest, passionate and deeply committed to the growth of her students. I felt much supported by her and by her amazing assistant, Zoë, throughout the whole training."

"I wanted to say a big thank you. You held space sooooo beautifully despite the room being packed. I loved the chocolate, the setting of our intentions, the smudging, I loved the music, I LOVED the sound bathing! What a scrumptious evening, I wanted it to go on forever!"
Gabi | Wild Chocolate Club Malvern
"Ecstatic Awakening Dance has been a bit of a life changer for me! People say it's a journey, talk of 'inner peace', but having taken 9 months to dedicate to myself, to shake and move my limbs, I now feel ALIVE, probably for the first time in over 30 years. With this training you form a tribe, a community who dance alongside you all safely watched over by Rebecca and Zoe, the Queens of space holding and bliss making. If you love and honour yourself then this is the journey for you, into the realms of joy awakening, you shake your body and shake it all up... Don't take my word for it get to a class and see for yourself or better still teach your own!"
Sara Hunter | Teacher Training | 2016
"Thank god I stopped procrastinating and decided to come on the teacher training! A very deep and rich experience taking us too many wonderful and challenging places – ultimately arriving at a place of empowerment; feeling confident in holding a space and being inspired with passion for the method. Not to mention meeting some wonderful people – a new soul family!"
Jay Lloyd | Teacher Training | 2011
I can honestly & openly say, that in all my years and love of dancing, yoga, meditation and therapy, I have never felt so free of mind and more deeply connected to myself and my body than I have done over this past 9 months. The more I embrace this practice, the more I fall in love with it as both willing participant, releasing and expressing and humble teacher transforming and I truly hope I will do it justice and be able to help others as deeply as I have felt and experienced myself.
Kate Walton | Teacher Training | 2016
"We had little idea of the challenges, the tears, the laughter, the sisterhood and the release of the furious dancing to come. Rebecca Hanscombe created mirrors for us to truly see our edges, our fears, our holdings and our resistant patterns and then held us as they broke apart. She let us dive in deep into it all. Rebecca then gave us the space and the support to rebuild and strengthen from a place of love."
Zoë Mason | Teacher Training | 2015
"This training has given me the confidence to step forward in LIFE and in becoming an ecstatic awakening dance teacher. I had no idea I would walk away with so many lessons and a deeper understanding of myself as I have. "Being self-conscious isn't serving anyone, especially yourself." This is one of many wise quotes that have stuck with me from the training and I hope to carry it with me for years to come. Thank you Rebecca and Zoe, for your infinite wisdom and the ability to hold such a safe space for such incredible transformation to happen. I'm forever grateful!"
Ashley Stevens | Teacher Training | 2017
"The facilitators are fantastic creating a space where I feel safe and free to just be me. I have danced with my light and my shadows and am always left feeling lighter, less afraid and more able to access my love and compassion for those around me…"
Amy Thomson | EAD | 2010
"The most special of times, places and people. I knew the dancing would be hot and the teaching passionate, but didn't expect to find my misplaced optimism in life there too. A privilege. "
