Cacao: an ancient story remembered

Shamanic Healing Shamanism Ecstatic Awakening Dance™

The resurgence of cacao ceremonies

Skin the colour of the earth and black-rimmed eyes, a force to be reckoned with, a God no less, Ek-Chuah. Such was the devotion he inspired that they honoured him with one of their most treasured goods: the fruits of the cacao tree.

They were the Mayans and cacao was central to their way of life. It was a currency, it was a tribute, it was a sacred drink. So why did the Mayans prize cacao so highly?

What did they know about this potent seed that we forgot over the centuries as cacao became processed into chocolate?

What are we now re-discovering about cacao that has led to the resurgence of its ceremonial use?

Cacao uncovered

At the School of Ecstatic Movement we’ve embraced the power of cacao, as so many others have who seek to reconnect to their true selves. Modern cacao ceremonies have swept across the globe, inspired by our Mayan ancestors, with each one as unique the practitioners hosting them.

As part of the Wild Chocolate Club we use cacao to enliven the dance experience, to open the heart and boost the feelings of ecstasy that come through ecstatic awakening dance.

Cacao is uniquely able to do all of this as Nature has endowed it with literally hundreds of natural–occurring chemicals, from anti-oxidants to mood enhancers. Not to mention minerals, such as magnesium, which support a healthy body. One chemical in particular, theobromine, stimulates the nervous system, the fibres that course through our entire bodies enabling us to move, sense and feel.

All of this goodness is packed into a simple seed, which when imbibed in its raw form can uplift and invigorate.

When combined with the power of Ecstatic Awakening Dance™, the effects are transformative. For that moment you are truly present in the here and now, alive with the energy of the universe flowing through you.

Embrace the joy of ecstatic awakening dance, feel the power of cacao coursing through you, join us at our next heart-opening retreat.
